Roland JP-80×0 Editor & Librarian is designed to control your Roland JP-8000 / Roland JP-8080 right from your DAW. With our Editor, you can work with your Roland JP-8000 / JP-8080 by the same way you use your VSTi and AudioUnit plug-ins. Our Editor will recall your patch settings when you open your project and the data will be sent to your JP-8000 / JP-8080 automatically once you open your project. Your synthesizer is always synchronized with your session! The only thing you need to worry, is that you power-up your synthesizer.

Realistic Bi-directional Graphical User Interface
Our graphical user interface design has been made to make everything from sound design to patch editing as smooth as possible. When you move a slider, push a button or twist a knob in your hardware, software will respond at appropriate layer/part.
Use sections locks with Randomizer function to create complex sounds while keeping the best settings untouched.
Save time, as all the edits are stored within the project, so once the project is opened up again, Total Recall will send the data to hardware automatically.
Patch and Performance mode management
Roland JP-80×0 Editor comes with ability to control Upper or Lower layer from the single plug-in instance. This means, you can have a lush supersaw patch on Upper layer and a feedback osc guitar like lead on Lower layer if you wish.
You can send patches from Librarian Browser to your selected Layer:
- Click LOWER on PANEL SELECT section and double click a patch on the librarian to send the patch to the selected layer.
- Click UPPER on PANEL SELECT section to send another patch for upper layer, simple as that!
Roland JP-80×0 Editor and Automation
With FULL version of Roland JP-80×0 Editor & Librarian, you can automate almost every parameter right from your DAW without having to remember all of the MIDI CC’s.This can be done easily by setting your DAW automation to Write or Latch mode and then turning the knob from the hardware or the plug-in.
Some of the SysEx parameters are not available due to a lot bandwidth taken from the MIDI cable.

What you CAN do with our Editor:
- Connect your Roland JP-8000 and / or JP-8080 directly with your DAW using MIDI.
- Edit almost every parameter of your synthesizer with our Editor.
- We added a bit more than 1200 parameters to the Editor (2 parts, globals and performance settings) so the sound editing should be painless and quick task.
- Automate almost every parameter in your DAW.
- Easier to handle automations than trying to remember hundreds of #CC’s.
- Parameters that are available for automation will be listed on your DAW. (Ableton Live can’t see our parameters by default, so you have to teach it).
- Total Recall of the sounds used up on project reload.
- All of the current parameters from the Editor will be sent to the hardware memory buffer up on project reload!
Time saver when thinking about storing, naming and loading data from multiple hardwares per project. - Editor reacts to hardware knob movements and displays knob, slider, menu and button values within the Editor display.
- Model selector in top bar defines which parameters are shown and available to your specific JP model.
- Store banks to your JP from the librarian.
- Store patches to your JP from the librarian.
- Request banks from your JP to the librarian.
- Request patches from your JP to the librarian.
- Store requested or modified bank data to your own library (on your HDD).
- View & edit patch names in Editor user interface.
- Librarian supports MIDI and SysEx soundset formats from both models.
- Select next or previous librarian patch from hardware.
- Select next or previous hardware patch from librarian.
- Move patches from one bank to another and save as you like.
- Send data from the Editor to your synthesizers Part buffer OR write RAM slots through our Editor.
- Download and put all of the JP soundsets in one folder for quick access through the Editor.
- Each part can have its own patch.
- Each part patch name can be set from the Editor window.
- Changing part from Editor changes part in hardware and vice versa.
- Layer multiple patches to create massive leads or such.
- Import Roland SH-201 and GAIA SH-01 files to the Editor Librarian.
What our Editor can NOT do:
- Transmit any audio. You have to plug your Synthesizers audio jacks into your mixer in order to hear the sound.
- You can not remotely start and / or shut down your Synthesizer.
Operating system specified settings / limits:
Windows limitations
Since Windows platform CAN NOT share resources between applications, it is important that you disable the MIDI input and output from your DAWs settings which you are intending to use with our Editor. If you leave the port open, our Editor will see it and once you click to use it, it might crash your DAW and you will lose your data. Link down below!
macOS limitations
macOS works “out from the box” with resource sharing, you are good to go once you insert the plugin into your DAW. However, our plugin can cause you a MIDI loop if you leave the port open / unfiltered from your hardware to your DAW. You can set various filters in your DAW.

- macOS 10.12 or later with AAX, AudioUnit, VST2 or VST3 host (Universal Binary 2).
- macOS 10.12 or later for Standalone Application (Universal Binary 2).
- Windows 7 or later with VST2, VST3 or AAX compliant host.
- Windows 7 or later for Standalone Application.
- at least HD resolution on your display recommended.

Works great but a few bugs on my end like causing ableton to crash randomly. Quite rare but it's happening. Very handy tool none the less!

I’m happy with all the other plugins I’ve purchased and installed.
The JP80x0 plugin won’t show up in Cubase (demo version didn’t, neither the 32 bit or 64 bit version appears).
I installed it in exactly the same manner, chose the exact same VST plugin folder, the plugin doesn’t show up (I can see it in my VST plugin folder, but it doesn’t show up in Cubase 8).

Software only partially works. Per the instructions, I set the synth settings correctly and made sure to adjust my daw and vst settings accordingly as well. When I try to download patches from the synth, a connection can’t be made, and when I try to upload patches to the synth, I get a success message accompanied with a ‚Äútmp‚’ message on my synth. When trying to play the uploaded patch, i hear a generic muted initial patch, which isn’t the patch i tired to upload. I can control that my midi cabling and interfaces are of good quality and functional. I can also confirm that the unit can control and be controlled via other VSTs with no issues. It would be nice if there are more instructions on how to troubleshoot the issue that come with the software.

I using Cubase Pro 9.5 But after I installed Roland JP 8000 vst plugin Cubase puts it in the blacklist. I did download the 64 bit version of the Roland JP 8000 vst and it was the same on Cubase 8 version. What shall I do? I cant use the plugin at all. I can send you a image if you dont believe me. It should be wokring without a problem in Cubase if its the 64 bit version of the plugin. Same in Vienna Ensamble Pro it cant find it. I have bought the plugin and I have a License Key. I dont know why my name is Anonymously here

How can it be that Cubase ALWAYS crashes as soon as I open the plugin? Also, the plugin, even the 64-bit version, is automatically moved to the Cubase VST-blacklist because it is so unstable. And, for goodness sake, how can it be that RME (!) MIDI ports are not supported? RME is a top notch Interface manufacturer…

For me having a VST component for a synth is really useful especially for storing patches in a digital format on my Mac – however the VST needs a really good clean up as I’ve lost some sounds trying to work out how to save your own patches. I e recently bought a Moog subsequent37 and the librarian / editor VST is much easier to save new sounds – perhaps this could be part of the next update? Honestly though it’s a really good to have this especially as the ah th isn’t even usb compatible and never released a DAW plug in or VST so big thumbs up even if I bought it at full.

Extremely recommended if you have the hardware. If you dont…., get it. Just to see how amazing this plugin works inside the daw. So easy to do automation. No problems in Logic ProX with the newest osx. A must have plugin. The third plugin I have from Mystery Islands, all great stuff.

Highly recommended. Whilst I do like to use the JP8000 hands on for experementing and tweaking (ya know, the whole point of buying hardware lol), it’s really cool to be able to rapidly load sound banks like a software synth, plus being able to use automation on basically any perameter in Ableton which is really the icing on the cake for me.
Basically, if you own a JP8000/8080 and use it with a DAW, buy this.

If you are lucky enough to have a JP8080/8000 in your studio then you are going to want this plugin.Jani is a genius and the development of this incredible product has resulted in me dusting down my old hardware and using it in a new way. It is a delight to be able to use my JP8080 with my new setup in such a seamless manner. Since returning to music production again I have mainly used VST instruments (Whereas before it was 90% hardware) but the work flow with this plugin is inspiring and just love tweaking some of the old patches I created back in 2004/5 in a different way. The soundbanks available on the Mystery Islands store are also fantastic and I highly recommend anyone that has a JP8080 / 8000 skips a few morning coffees and invests in all the banks (especially if you like that nostalgic trance tones!) – Dave Dowsett aka ‘Factoria’

This plugin is a nice wat to control my Roland JP 8080 in my DAW. The librarian is so good to use and will safe me time in my workflow and cost me less money to buy an memorycard, cost around €50..You have to get used to this plugin but if you have mastered it very easy to use.I would suggest this plugin to every one who ownes a JP 8080!

I really love the new version which was free to users who had the original. The larger GUI is great for me, I’m exploring the improvements which trying to meet a deadline so going in steps. This really make my 8080 an active part of my setup as opposed to taking a backseat to plugin vst’s

Roland JP 8x80 Editor - 2.1.1 version - wonderful plugin for Roland JP 8000!
I am impressed by the brilliant mind and talent Jani, this is another review, this time a new 2.1.1 version of Roland JP 8×80 Editor! Wonderful plugin! It works amazingly! Tested it for 8 hours and find no bugs! Very user-friendly interface, very ergonomic and attention to detail! New graphics rotary knobs and panels, is pleasant and has a productive work, pleasing to the eye. The large font size, everything is clear and understandable! New functions for loading and saving libraries impress, work very well! During the 8 hours I managed to compose awesome trance track! Previously, with the old version of the plugin is somehow not as it turned out! Beauty, comfort, functionality, is the main and not all the features of the new version roland jp 8×80 editor plugin! New life for the legendary synthesizer!

I recently purchased the ms2kxr and the jp8x plugin. I did not get them to run properly on my system. I emailed several times asking for help. Jani took the time to reply to my first message and promised me to mail me back the next day because it was late at night. I never heard anything after that. The so called excellent customer service turned out to be not so excellent. I asked for a refund but never heard a thing. I hope Jani has the decency to reply after reading this review.

Great plugin, but it keeps unregistering itself
Plugin works great, and got my JP8080 up and running nice and quick. But for some reason, it Unregisters the program seemingly at random, and then I have to reload the plugin + the patch, and then rebuild my sounds from scratch. I’ve followed the install and setup instructions to the letter, and it keeps happening. I’m an FL 12 user, so that could be it. But that would definitely be a good issue to resolve, if it’s happening to others

Good Productt
There aren’t many other editors for the JP-8080. This one is far better than what else is out there. My only complaint and reason for not giving 5 stars is that I cannot get it to work with Cubase. for some reason that support and I are looking into, Cubase throws an error when I try to connect the unit to my Midi ports.

The Mystery Islands JP Editor integrates this magnifisant synth flawously into you modern DAW setup. Saving patches en automating parameters within a project was never easier than with this editor. This relative older synth is now back on track for future.

JP-80x0 editor
It is a nice, easy and good looking editor. It was simple to install and to set up. I had one small problem installing the license key, but the online support helped me out in a matter of minutes. Nice guys. However, there seems to be some problems with some of the editor buttons not working properly. I turn the knobs but nothing happens. Most of the buttons work nicely, like filter and resonance. The interface looks good and feels like a JP. I wish there was a scaling function for the plugin so I could make it a bit bigger sometimes. Im very excited about the update. A few minor problems, but overall I recommend it. It sure beats setting up the controllers manually in your DAW.

Tried it out in cause of defect
I tried the tool to have a workaround for a defect button of my 8080. That didn’t work because I couldn’t set up my midi prefs on the 8080 right. After I have gotten my repaired device back, i tried the demo and it was really nice. I had a problem with uploading patches, that’s not so intuitive as I thought but so i had a chance to try the customer support and what can i say, a short time later i had the right information to get everything to work well.

Reignited my love for the JP-8000
Now that I’ve finished importing all my sounds to the JP-80×0 Editor format, I absolutely love this plug-in. I had demo’ed the version 1.x version and it was really nice but this is a whole other level with the librarian. In all honesty I’ve been spoiled by the Virus TI software for a long time, having hardware and software is the best of both words. Automation of synth parameters is a ‘must’ for me these days. Over time I began using the JP-8000 only for playing around and fun, but I stopped using it in actual songs due to a lack being able to incorporate it into my DAW… a lack of automation is a real deal-breaker for me these days. This plug-in has reignited my love for the JP-8000. You guys essentially ‘modernized’ the JP-8000/8080 by releasing such a great piece of software. I’ll definitely start using the JP in songs again now. Thank you for putting so much time into your software, it feels very refined and is by far the best 3rd party synth editor I’ve come across. I have other 3rd party synth editors for other synths I own and they leave me frustrated half the time I use them. Sometimes they work and sometimes I run into bugs and the frustration kills the creativity of the moment. So I really appreciate the effort that you guys put into the JP-80×0 Editor, it’s a quality product.

Breathing new life into dusty hardware!
Ok, I’ll admit it. When I’m making a track, anything that gets in the way of getting my ideas into my DAW quickly get unused. I love my Jp8080 and Access Virus C, but my softsynths are just too easy to tweak and automate in Ableton. Well, this FINALLY has me dusting off those old synths and integrating them into my workflow 🙂 I haven’t given either a ton of time yet, but already started using them in my tracks again because they feel as quick as using softsynths which simply don’t match the quality of these synths. Best of both worlds! I bought them for $75 each and would happily buy them again.

This is a must have for any JP8000/8080 owner. This plugin brings this classic synth into the 21st century and plugs it into your DAW. I use i with Logic Pro X with great success. I love how easy it is to automate and the librarian functions are a life saver. I still like to edit sounds on the hardware but the plugin makes like easy when changing settings and selecting the different ARPs. It also lets you see what setting the various parameters are before you move them, much faster than using the parameter scope function in the synth.
